The brave writer approach is about creating a lifestyle.Quiver is great for younger grades, then you can move onto the Arrow and keep going to high school where she offers online writing classes.It’s a secular and literature based language arts program which is more challenging to find.By reading literature and breaking down certain parts, they can understand the application of what they’re learning about. Grammar and writing mechanics is taught in a way that the kids can related to.It’s open and go, but there’s no ‘falling behind’ on anything like many LA programs. Super easy to use, just print it off and each day will tell you what to do.
If you struggle with choosing literature books to read, Brave Writer offers a great list for varied age groups. You can also buy single issues of the Quiver or the Arrow, but I had purchased the year as I liked the book list. So far we’ve done Mr.Poppers Penguins (Quiver), Charlotte’s Web (Quiver) the Trumpet of the Swan (Quiver) and Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (the old Arrow).
The quiver of arrows has been a perfect fit for her, and since we’re using an Arrow unit which is meant for grade 3-6th grade. I live and breathe reading aloud and enjoying books with my kids. I fell in love with literature based learning. It felt tedious to be checking off lists and going through the scope and sequence. It was such a different approach and I was struggling with our current language arts program. Update The Quiver of Arrow is now re-branded into the Dart program.Īfter a friend referred me to Julie Bogart’s podcast one day and raved about the Brave Writer lifestyle I was intrigued.
